CAFOD launches emergency East Africa appeal

CAFOD is launching a major emergency appeal for support for those starving in East Africa.

CAFOD is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee, the umbrella organisation which launches and coordinates responses to major disasters overseas. It says: “Severe drought, civil war and a lack of food has crippled communities across East Africa, leaving millions of people hungry and facing starvation. Your donation will provide emergency food, water, healthcare and sanitation to people in desperate need.”

CAFOD’s Head of Africa, Fergus Conmee, added: “Hunger is evident in the thinness of children, and the way clothes hang from the bodies of people already suffering. Together we must do all that we can to save lives.”

CAFOD adds: “Thank you to everyone who has recently given to our Lent Appeal. We are appealing again so soon because of the urgent hunger facing our brothers and sisters overseas, in what the UN has described as the largest humanitarian crisis in more than 70 years. If you are able to give again, every donation will help people in desperate need.”
