A new perspective on the Cross at Rayleigh

Our Lady of Ransom church in Rayleigh has a unique attribute. A wall hanging behind the crucifix was recently removed and an interesting phenomenon became apparent: the church lights cast the shadows of two crosses on the walls, one on each side of the cross itself.  This, as parish priest Fr Paul Fox’s recent interview with BBC Essex explains, brings to mind the two criminals crucified on either side of Jesus Christ, adding to the contemplative atmosphere of the church.

The BBC Sunday morning programme is looking for what it calls ‘a USP’ in churches of all denominations. So if you have a something unique and interesting in your church, please get in touch.
