It is essential that all governors are fully aware of their responsibilities in relation to child protection and safeguarding.
The Prevent duty is a statutory requirement under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015. It places a duty on specified authorities, including education, healthcare, and local government in England and Wales, to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.”
The accompanying statutory guidance, which is regularly updated and remains in force, sets out a clear framework for identifying, assessing, and supporting individuals who may be vulnerable to radicalisation.
Kathy Dee, specialist safeguarding advisor, will be delivering Prevent training through an online workshop. The session will cover:
- What the Prevent duty is and what it means in practice
- An overview of relevant ideologies
- A summary of local risks
- How to respond to concerns, including making a referral
This webinar will provide governors with the essential knowledge required to understand and fulfil their statutory safeguarding responsibilities in relation to Prevent.
