SVP stalwart dies in Colchester

f3bf6874-f9d6-4a13-b9ba-7_eIt was with great sadness that the St Vincent de Paul Conference of St Teresa of Lisieux, Lexden, Colchester, learnt of the death on 17 March 2016 of Arthur Jones. A founder member of the Conference, he served the St Vincent de Paul Society for over 50 years, taking on the role of Secretary both at St Teresa’s and also at the Colchester District and Brentwood Central Council. In February 2007, he was awarded the Blessed Frederic Ozanam medal in acknowledgement of his long and generous service within the Society.

The Conference said: “Arthur Jones was a true Vincentian, generous, dedicated and loving towards the suffering and deprived, never failing to turn his concern for others into action. Caring and understanding, he also volunteered at the Colchester Night Shelter at night. He leaves a wife, Doris, and three sons who saw him as ‘a good man all round’ who never did anything to hurt anyone. He will be sorely missed, and is remembered with affection.”

May he rest in peace.
