St Teresa’s Primary School, Basildon has recently attained its “single greatest sporting achievement”, winning the final of Essex County’s ‘Small Schools Athletics Competition’. Its pupils competed against those of 120 other schools to take first place, progressing through the qualifiers to the final. “Throughout the competition they were excellent school ambassadors,” said headteacher Jacques Bottjer, “showing both pride in themselves and respect to their competitors.”
The credit for this extraordinary success, it said, belongs both to St Teresa’s pupils and to Rhys Fatt, their sports coach. Rhys has described this achievement as the highlight of his thirteen-year career as a qualified sports coach so far. “The boys and girls who represented the school competed brilliantly, showing determination, teamwork and a spirit of excellence,” he said. “ Congratulations St Teresa’s.”
