A Christmas message from Bishop Alan: ‘Love of God allows us to love our neighbour’

In his Christmas message broadcast on BBC Essex, Bishop Alan Williams sm focused on the good news of Jesus’ birth. He said: “I am aware that the last year has been tough for all of us. What is the opposite of good news? Maybe fake news. It has been a curious year in terms of politics and politicians but I am not going to talk about that.”

Jesus Christ, he said, came to bring good news: “I am not talking about rules and regulations but about love of God which allows us to love our neighbour. And, as he grew up, he said there was no difference between loving God and loving our neighbour.”

He concluded: “Try to get a look at a crib and simply realise that God so loved the world that he sent his only son – that is good news indeed.”
