Celebrating RSCM awards in Brentwood Cathedral

Vespers in Brentwood Cathedral on Saturday 25 January was a very special occasion.  It celebrated the presentation of the Royal School of Church Music Bishops’ and Deans’ Awards gained by singers in the Dioceses of Brentwood and Chelmsford during 2019.   Bishop Alan Williams and Bishop Stephen Cottrell were both present, together with Father Martin Boland, Dean of Brentwood Cathedral and Canon Ivor Moody, Vice-Dean of Chelmsford.  The music was provided by the Choir of Brentwood Cathedral conducted by Master of Music Andrew Wright, pictured below with Chelmsford Cathedral’s Director of Music, James Davy.

The Deans’ and Bishops’ Award examinations are open to singers of all ages in Church or School Choirs, or individual singers in the Diocese of Brentwood and Chelmsford.    The purpose is to encourage musicianship, loyalty and a growing awareness of faith, whilst giving a tangible recognition of such a standard.
