The Music Department is responsible for the provision of music for the Cathedral and for Diocesan ceremonies.

The Department works closely with the Diocesan Commissions, most especially the Commission for Liturgy as its main function is to promote liturgical music around the Diocese.

This is done through the provision of training and resources as well as working in conjunction with the parishes and schools.

The work also includes the running of the various choirs, including the Cathedral Choir, and the organisation of regular concerts, all of which serve to promote awareness of the traditions and developments in liturgical music.
